Shadows - And the singer is...

Hi everyone!

Big announcement today! You already know that all the songs from "Shadows" are recorded, but I was still looking for the singer...

I tried several times to contact various singers, who didn't answer me, then I decided to try something different. I created a casting on a website called Starnow.

In two days I had 29 applications, from a lot of countries. Before that, I had felt that the singers I had contacted were not interested in my project, so that was a big contrast!

The most important thing is that among all these singers, I discovered someone with the voice I am looking for, the one that I really want to hear on my album, the one who is perfect to tell the various stories from "Shadows".

And this Irish singer is... Edwina Van Kuyk. You can listen to her voice on her soundcloud page.

I look forward to working with her and I'm very glad I found her. Now we have to organize our schedules to record the vocals, and the whole album will be recorded!

See you next week!

CompoLive - Live is delayed

Hi everyone!

Today I'll talk again about CompoLive.
I've already mentioned this in a previous article.
The idea is to compose a song live, from styles and instruments you have suggested to me.

I announced the project the 3rd of January for a live on February 1st, leaving one month to receive a maximum of ideas.

Today, I have received nothing. No challenges, no live, so I decided to delay the project by a month, hoping this time to receive your challenges.

To be a little more specific that's how the live should be:

- You send me ideas of styles and instruments, or other categories you think interesting and that I didn't think about, I'll see if I can gather some of your ideas in a different category.

- I will put all your challenges in a table with the names of each of you, and a number for each of your proposals.

- I will draw at random a number in each category and ...

... I'll try to compose a short piece of music with those challenges!

Well, if I ask you your ideas for this first time, it is not for any censorship, it is to know what to expect! Depending on how it goes, it is possible that I will not ask you for the next time, and I will ask directly to a person in the virtual room to give me his challenge ...

If you want to know more about it, read the previous article or the dedicated page on my website and contact me.

The event is now on facebook and the StageIt show is created.

StageIt is a streaming platform which allows to create virtual venues. In this case, it will be my studio.

The entry fee in this "room" is free, you can give what you want. Like if you were going to a free show and give money to the artist after or during their performance, you can add a bit of money during the show if you like it and want to encourage me ...

I plan to offer my EP "Shadows on Keys" to 10 biggest contributors.

Now you know everything. If unfortunately, due to lack of entries, we had to cancel, everyone would be refunded by the platform, but it would be a shame to cancel.

See you next week!

Jymm Audio - My brand, My sound

Hi everyone!

You may now know that I like building my own gear, I built my microphones for my album (static mics or ribbon mics), you may have noticed that I also built my master keyboard, Beryl, but did you know that I have my own brand ?

I created Jymm Audio 5 years ago, in january ! I wanted to design and sell high quality audio gear, hand nuilt, with good electronic components...

5 years after, I didn't sell anything. Don't be worried, I gave up during the first year ! I was kind of abandoned by all the people who were previously interested.
Today, I think there are less than 10 people who tested my products.

I won't tell here about music magazines or distributors, paid by big brands not to accept any unknown brand... I won't tell anything about people who simply didn't want to test something because the brand wasn't known...

Jymm Audio then became MY personal audio brand, mostly for my personal use !
I used my tube preamps and tube DIs for all the recordings on my album ! I'm very proud of it, and I'm very happy with the result...

Today, I'm heading to a show, and I'll be using one of my passive stereo DI. I did something like 150 gigs with it, it traveled a lot, and I never had any issue with it, no cracks...If the only fragile components inside were broken, it would cost me almost 15€ to fix it, and I'd have a almost new DI...could I say the same with other DI ?

Here's the secret behind my sound, on stage, or on recordings...

The big invisible things in my studio

Hi everyone !

A few weeks ago, I told you about my instruments, and you were able to see some pictures of my studio. There are things that you didn't see, although they take a lot of space.

Today, I talk about my cases.

For guitars and basses, it's easy, as I don't use them everydays. They are always in their cases, so they only take the space of that.

The big issue I have is with the keyboards cases. I always have 4 or 5 keyboards in the studio, so they have their space in the studio, but their cases also have their space elswhere. I have almost one case for one keyboard, sometimes rigid, sometimes semirigid, here's a picture of all the keyboards cases:

And as they were in their cases when I told about my instruments, this is the occasion to show you three keyboards you didn't see: the Korg microKontrol, the Yamaha PSS390 (I have it for 24 years now, and it's still working, although I don't use it very often), and a Fatar SL 161.

But the biggest case I have is the one for my mixing desk (a Yamaha DM2000). For now, I didn't use it, but if I have to move the desk, I will...

CompoLive - A new project for 2015

Hi everyone!

I wish you all a happy new year !

Today, I tell you about a project I have for several months now, and that I decided to call CompoLive.

Basically, it's a live session on the web, via Stageit, and I will compose a short piece (30s - 1mn) of music based on your ideas.

The first session will be the 1st of february, at 5 PM. This will be a test. That's gonna be really fun. If everything goes right, I plan to do that every months, and I already have some ideas to spice the challenge for the next times !

You'll find some informations on my new website, still under construction for some parts: http://jimmytillier.com/compolive

I'm now waiting for your ideas, and until that, you can watch this short video about it !

See you next week !
